What are Teeth whitening?
Teeth whitening is a cosmetic treatment that lightens the natural colour of your teeth. Whitening gels use peroxide to break down staining that has built up within the tooth surface over time. It is a different thing from a clean — a scale and polish removes deposits sitting on the outside of the tooth, while whitening changes the shade of the tooth itself.
We offer two routes. In-chair whitening is performed here by one of our dentists in a single appointment of around 90 minutes, using the Philips Zoom system with a stronger gel than can be dispensed for home use. Take-home whitening uses a lower-concentration gel that you apply yourself in trays, daily for about a week — either Opalescence Go, which comes prepackaged and ready to use, or Philips Zoom DayWhite, where your dentist makes the trays to the shape of your own teeth.
Before any whitening begins, one of our dentists will assess whether it suits your teeth. Not every kind of discolouration responds to whitening, and existing fillings, crowns and veneers do not change colour with the gel. That assessment is what tells you which method makes sense and what sort of change is realistic for your teeth.
Two options, two budgets
The Philips Zoom DayWhite home whitening system allows for custom-fitted mouth trays to be made to give optimal comfort for the wearer. It involves taking moulds of your upper and lower teeth to create a set of thin and comfortable mouthguards that fit the upper and lower arch of your mouth and around the contours of your teeth and therefore provide uniform whitening across your smile.
Both systems involve wearing clear plastic mouth trays containing the supplied whitening gel for 30 minutes each day for approximately one week.
Philips Zoom DayWhite
Opalescence Go is a ready-to-use home teeth whitening system which comes with professional whitening gel pre-loaded into disposable mouth trays so that it can be used straight out of the packet. The mouth trays are discreet to wear and designed to mould and adapt to fit your smile for comfort during wear and without the need for custom mouth trays and therefore also saves on cost and time.
The Opalescence Go tooth whitening gel also contains Potassium Nitrate and Fluoride (PF) to help maintain enamel health throughout the whitening process and reduce the risk of tooth sensitivity.

How much does teeth whitening cost?
Our take-home kits are $150 for Opalescence Go and $350 for Philips Zoom DayWhite with custom-made trays. In-chair whitening with our dentists is $700. Your dentist will confirm the cost with you at your assessment, before any treatment starts.
Is teeth whitening painful?
Most people find the procedure comfortable. Your dentist applies a light-reactive hydrogen peroxide based whitening gel to your teeth after a professional clean, used together with a specially designed light to activate and accelerate the breakdown of the hydrogen peroxide. Some people experience temporary sensitivity afterwards, and your dentist will talk you through what to expect beforehand.
